As a graduate of the second largest university system in the nation (that would be State University of New York), it's heartening to see SUNY jumping into energy efficiency in a big way. The system has just launched a ten-year plan to cut energy consumption by 30% and to adopt a SUNY Smart Grid, according to ( Who would have guessed that SUNY's 64 campuses make it the second largest consumer of energy in the state. Must be all that late-night studying. Or partying.

The plan also contemplates that the system's 465,000 students will take their new-found energy awareness and energy-saving practices into their careers and lives. And really change the world.
